Grapevine Silos
Beyond Beyond ~ Challenge One
Our first assignment from my Beyond Beyond class was to set up a scene and take time to photograph it from all angles, change aperture for different depths of field, move about, and scroll through the images on the camera while taking the photos. Thankfully, Kim Klassen said...think creatively...think you! Setting up beautiful things for a still life photo is not my forté so this time I headed to Grapevine, Texas where I'd seen a row of silos.
It was a cold overcast day which really gave me great light, but provided nothing in the sky to work with. I decided to go ahead and photograph the silos anyway because right now...finishing my projects to the best of my ability...the best I can do today...is one of the lessons I'm trying to learn. I wandered around the silos for about an hour trying to capture them with different lenses, different angles, and I tried to notice some of the detail in what I was seeing.
At the end of the day, I'm always surprised by what I learn from my assignments and the confidence I gain in going out to shoot images by myself.

I absolutely love this! You have a wonderful eye for composition- in each photo as well as in the layout. Love the tones too .
ReplyDeleteWow! I love all the images, I don't think I could pick a favorite.

ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I love pictures of rusty old things. And that picture of the crow! Wow! It looks like a line drawing. Great interpretation of the Beyond Beyond assignment. I don't do a lot of still life shots either.

(sorry for leaving my link this way -- am having problems logging into blogspot blogs through OpenID, so my "identity" is pointing to my old, defunct blog).
What a great job. Love how you pulled these all together. Subject material very cool.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great exercise - to take the time to really study a single subject. And you have succeeded so well. I'm glad you decided to take this "outside" - I'm like you - indoor still lifes are not my forte either. With a subject like this you have the added challenge of not being able to move things around to your liking - you can only move yourself and your perspective and work with what is there.
ReplyDeleteYou have given us the beautiful geometry of the silos and the sense of their massive size. The collage of all the images together is so effective. I would mark this lesson as a rousing success.
Hello, Suzette. It is so nice to see you here. I have "met" you through Sara's garden. I really like what you did here. I especially like your subject matter. Same assignment but on a much bigger scale than most of us chose. You are right about the wonderful light on that cloudy day. Great set of images but that bird is my very favorite. Well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat subject love it....
ReplyDeleteFantastic course, love every capture and pov! Tell Kim to give you an A+ (I'm sure Kim doesn't care what I think and for that matter doesn't grade). Anway you did wonderful!!!

ReplyDeleteThese are so spectacular. They would make a beautiful print series.
ReplyDeleteForgot to say I really like the light in these, whether it's the natural light or post processing. They are just lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou really worked all the angles and prespectives. Love the one you included the bird.
ReplyDeleteWow!! These are just wonderful, and creative angles! Loved seeing them all together in the collage.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by by blog and leaving a comment. Your photos are wonderful. I look forward to seeing more of your Beyond Beyond assignments.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how the scene changes as you change your point-of-view. Wonderful imagery!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful collage, Suzette !
