Live Elevated

This is the image I've chosen for my Photo-Heart Connection for March 2014. Many of you are possibly participating in Kat's Liberate Your Art 2014 postcard swap so you understand why I took this picture. This is a postcard I received from Evelyn Spikes in Elgin, Oregon and I wanted to show the contrast of landscapes from the lush green northwest and the dry plains of Texas...including barbed wire and longhorns. I didn't have to go far from home. These longhorns graze in a huge pasture just east of where I live.

Like most of you, I've chosen this photo not because of the image itself, but the emotion I had while shooting it. I don't use my camera as often as I want to as I put off taking photogwalks for many other things that do not lift my soul. Why? That's another blog, but on this day, wandering along the fence line, moving the card here and there to capture the cattle behind it, feeling the breeze on my face and the sun on my shoulders...I felt alive and elevated. I had the best time ever! I can still call to mind the experiences of that day and my heart sings.

  1. Great contrast between the two places. Also the contrast between your happiness while you were creating this photo heart connection and other moments in your life when your creativity is idle.

  5. Oh, I love that description of being "elevated" - lifted up by the creative process. Isn't that the why we do what we do? I love the contrasts of this image - what a very creative way to share both your world and the world of another, in a lovely combination that enhances each.

  6. The photo is gorgeous, I can see why your heart would be singing. It speaks to me of the connection the swap brings, but I like that it also made you consider how and when you create. We all need more in our lives. Thank you for sharing in the Photo-Heart Connection!
