Liberate Your Art 2014

Another year of Kat Sloma's "Liberate Your Art" postcard swap has sadly come and gone. I truly look forward to this event and I'm always thrilled when the first email arrives from Kat saying...it's time to get ready.

This year I sent out five different postcards and I think the images above represent the postcards I mailed to Kat. If truth be told, I made changes last minute and failed to write down which postcards I sent, but to the best of my recollection...these are they!

I also enjoy participating in the "Liberate Your Art" Facebook group. It's fun to comment on the beautiful postcards everyone is receiving and to see where each one has landed. This is the second year that I have no idea where my postcards found themselves. I choose to believe that wherever they are...they have been enjoyed by someone. That's not to say I've given up hope to find them on the blog hop. {smiling here} I will certainly have my eye out for them.

Well, let's get started! Here are the six cards I received this year ~

"The words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels."
-- Hazrat Inayat Khan

This beautiful postcard was created by Evelyn Spikes who lives in Elgin, Oregon. I took this photo at a nearby ranch to illustrate the difference in landscapes between the lush green northeast and hot dry climate of Texas. Those are Texas Longhorns in the background.

Thank you Evelyn for sending such wonderful words and flowers to me in Roanoke, Texas.

"If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing."
-- Marc Chagall

The rooster on this postcard is a close-up portion of a larger painting. The colors are so fabulous and I would love to see the painting in person. I photographed this card on one of my favorite wooden boxes. Roosters don't lay eggs...oh well, I liked the color.

Thank you Meredith Gisness! Your postcard is safe and sound in Texas.

This one came all the way from Kent in the UK. The castle was built in 1385 so I took the postcard to a local historical farm built in 1869. The castle has more than 500 years on this old home. We forget how young our country really is compared to other countries around the world.

Thank you Lisa for sharing your part of the world with me. My grandparents immigrated to Canada from Redhill, Surrey, UK and finally settled in San Diego, California where my mom was born. My husband and I plan to visit the UK when he retires. Your photography is beautiful.

"Teach us delight in simple things."
-- Rudyard Kipling

This beautiful postcard was sent by Barbara Hurst. I took this postcard to the Dallas Arboretum to photograph. It was one of the windiest days we've had so far this spring so balancing the card in the fields of tulips wasn't going to work. I found this sweet ivy growing along the rock work of a bridge and nestled the card in for a shot. Such a beautiful flower belongs in a world-class garden.

Thank you Barbara!

"Whether you succeed or not is irrelevant, there is no such thing. Making your unknown known is the important thing."
-- Georgia O'Keeffe

Sheila Delgado sent this postcard and I like another thing she wrote on the back of her card. It says, "Face your fears...go forth boldly! You have friends there!" I love the words she used and somehow the words feel so powerful.

Thank you Sheila for this beautiful postcard.

"Thanks! You made the world a better place by Liberating your Art. Now, go do it again!"
-- Kat Sloma

And last, but not least...the postcard from Kat!

I may be speechless now. It's hard to put into words my appreciation of Kat's art, her dedication to her blog, and all the ways she inspires me. The postcard swap allows me to send out a bit of myself...my art...without feeling afraid of judgement or failure. The experience is soul freeing. Through Kat's commitment to the process of Liberating Art, our art is given wings and it flies around the world.

Thank you Kat! Your postcard is held up against the Texas sky!

Can't wait until next time!
