Before The Wedding

Houmas House Plantation ~ Louisiana

Danna's friends were married at the Houmas House Plantation. Before the wedding began, guests were able to wander the grounds and gardens of this fabulous place. The bride had several photographers on site capturing every detail of this special day. Needless to say, I was a bit intimidated carrying my camera around while trying to stay out of their way. I did get several shots of the plantation house from different angles and this one seemed the most traditional view of the residence.

This house faces the Mississippi. A huge levee sits in front of it now obscuring the view of the river, but I can visualize what it must have been like many years ago. These huge oak trees were planted in front of the home to draft cool air off the river and bring the breeze through the windows and into the house. Travelers and guests would walk along a path between the trees to the front porch. Imagine yourself walking here and as you reach the veranda, you turn to see the Mississippi River...with all its power...moving past you.

“And all the voices, all the goals, all the yearnings, all the sorrows, all the pleasures, all the good and evil, all of them together... All of them together was the [river]..., the music of life.” ~ Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha
