The Artist's Way

Along with participating in Beyond Layers, Beyond Beyond, and Round Trip...a Lightroom 4 tutorial, I've begun reading The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. In Beyond Beyond, Kim Klassen encouraged us to take the challenge of writing Morning Pages, which is a part of The Artist's Way. Each morning I write three pages...longhand...of my random thoughts. I've committed to this for 3-months. Along with writing there are many other assignments given in the book and one of them is a weekly Artist's Date. I've decided to post an image from my "date" each week. This is the first. On my initial Artist's Date, I took myself to the Dallas Arboretum. All of the tulips are in full bloom. It is spectacular and I have many shots of tulips. However, walking along one of the many trails, I found these little beauties cascading over some steps and they caught my eye.

I've taken many first steps over the past year. As I'm working through my classes...looking to rediscover my creativity...like everything else...it's one step at a time!

  1. Wow! you are certainly diving in headfirst with those creativity classes - good for you! I look forward to seeing you blossom - one step at a time. Lovely, delicate image with a beautiful softness.

  2. Suzette, I'm going to do this with you. I've read The Artist Way twice, no self discipline. I am taking calligraphy classes and I was talking with Anne, my instructor, and she mentioned Julia's book and she committed to six months. She told me some of the things she discovered. So I've been thinking about committing to the morning pages and now, you've just nailed it for me. Thank you.

    1. Oh! I'm so glad to have helped get you on your way, but I must say I'm not doing very well with it right now. My mom, who is 88 years old, is here visiting and I've gotten behind. Once she's on her way back to California I'll get back to it. Now you've inspired me to keep going! Thank you!
